With the Coronavirus has come some strange and uncertain times. Gyms are closed, sporting clubs are closed, some of us are in isolation, some of us can’t attend physio/osteo appointments, some of us are working from home!

So how do we stay active with all of this going on?

Here are some simple and easily accessible exercises for the complete care community to practice at home.

1) Plank

The plank is a simple yet challenging exercise that accommodates for all fitness levels. For beginners start on your knees and elbows. For the advanced players at home incorporate leg, arm and core movements. You can even perform a side plank to work your oblique muscles!

2) Body weight Exercises

Seeing as a lot of us don’t have an Olympic barbell set-up at home we can use our own body weight to create challenges. Body weight exercises include push ups, tricep dips, squats, lunges, burpees (the list goes on).

3) Stairs

If you have stairs at home, why not use them to your advantage? You may choose to walk or run up and down the stairs, or perhaps create a more challenging isolated workout and perform step ups.

4) Free-weights

If you are craving a weighted squat, dead lift or a few bicep curls this is where you will need to get creative! Use text books, work books, cans, bags of rice, milk bottles, pets, etc.

5) Skipping

Skipping is an excellent cardio exercise that you perform on the spot! All you need is a skipping rope. You may choose to see how many skips in a row you can complete or go as fast as you can for 1 minute. Perhaps you are an elite skipper and can perform double and triple unders! The options are limitless with this one.
